Where does the time go? I was just found!! It's funny; we were always complaining: the food, the counselers, we wanted to go home. When we got home; we counted the days until the Reunion. After that, we counted for camp to start all over again.Camp Kahagon was the Best!! I smile when I think back! Let's keep this going!

We are currently looking for anyone that attended Camp Kahagon in Quakertown Pa. We are planning a reunion to be held in March of "09". Currently we have found 60 fellow campers from those great years. So when you read this contact Marty Bachrach at martyb@tds.net and then pass it on to anyone you still know from those great summers. To this day I am still friendly with several of my fellow bunk mates.
Come spend a night of sharing memories and renewing friendship. I look forward to hearing from many people.

Marty Bachrach (59-64)

Patti: Your brother was always "braking my chops." It was the best part of growing up and I certainly am looking forward to seeing my past. it is wonderful knowing that Izzy's baby sister has "grown all up."

This is so exciting to finally reconnect with Kahagon alums. I went there for at least 6 years until it closed and have been trying so hard to reconnect. I have such fond memories of those wonderful, crazy summers.

Thanks for reaching out to me.

My sisters and I were big Camp Kahagon boosters. Loved our years there with Chief One Star Bill Krebs, Jack and Jean Tritel.
My name Ivan Shaner. My sisters...Chelley Shaner and Felice Shaner. Did the reunion take place?
How did we ever miss it.
During the years we were at Kahagon I was a camper waiter then the Entertainment Counselor. We put on shows like South Pacific, Oklahoma and a couple Gilbert & Sullivan productions. Still in Philly--pn the radio as Gene Shay.

Hi, I'm Ivan and Felice's sister, Chelley Shaner. I went to Kahagon from about 1948 to 1956. I was a camper, then jr. counselor, and counselor.

I'd love to hear from Sylvia Kris, Paula Rothenberg, Nancy Rubin (from DC) and any of the kids who were in my bunk as campers or when I was a counselor.

Or even some of the boys.

OMG Suddenly Bobbie Didio re-surfaces in my life, Wow..the last time I saw her she was running a botique in Manhattan..just a few blocks from the train station--in her husband's clothing store.
So glad to hear you're alive and well (I hope so)

Hi Bobbie,

I remember so many great things about you. I think of you often - you influenced me even tho' you most likely didn't realize it. I never became tall, statuesque, long-legged and tan, with a swinging ponytail and a super dynamic personality, BUT, I did OK anyway.

My family and I used to do tent camping in Millerton many years ago

Best regards to you and your brother, Robert.

Marty B.: Kahagon was located in Weisel PA, maybe it is in Quakertown today due to P.O. changes. Quakertown was where we used to eat at Trainers Restaurant.

Cheers, Chelley

Wow! I wish I had found this site much sooner! I went to Camp Kahagon in the summers of 1956, 1957 and 1958 --- and I remember the brother and sister DiDio from 1956! Do I remember correctly that her nickname was "Bubbles?"

1956 was also the summer that I met Irwin Linial from York, Pennsylvania, at Kahagon. Since we were only 12-1/2 and he lived in Pennsylvania and I lived in Teaneck, New Jersey, we didn't see each other again after we left camp until we met again at a fraternity party in our sophomore year of college, at Penn State! We've been friends ever since, until he passed away just 3 weeks ago.

My maiden name was Barbara Singer. My married name is Barbara Mintz. babsy6@aol.com

I figure it is a good idea to put in a word on the new year. Went to Kahagon for so many years and was even a Color War General. As I get older and as time begins to become precious. I remember so fondly my time there. I plan to visit sometime this year COVID permitting and even try to look for momentos. As they say Jeff Davis was here again!

So sad to have learned that Barbara Walker a/k/a Bobbie DiDio passed away in May of covid-19 in NYC. Also, her brother, Robert DiDio passed away from cancer in 2014.

I was at Camp Kahagon when I was between 8 and 10 years old, I'd say, for at least 2 summers. When the owners opened Camp Tamarack, I believe, with the "your own horse for the summer" theme, I moved there for a couple of years. Sure, I remember the Krebs family. I also remember fun, games, sports, color war, singing, shows, campfires, and bug juice. I'm now 74. Most of the memories are pretty blurry!

My sister Denise and twin brother Alan went to Camp Kahagon in 1960. We were not quite 10 yet. Our sister was 12. I remember Color War, Alan was on the white team, I was on the blue team. One highlight of the summer was the camp trip in August to Connie Mack Stadium to see the Phillies. That game started our love of baseball.

Unfortunately, Alan died in April 2020 from covid.

Dear campers, sorry that my notes are disorganized, but when memories come, they just flood in. I'm Chelley Shaner Gutin, so happy to read all of your comments. This is my second post. I went to Kahagon for many years as camper, CIT, and counselor. My older brother, Ivan Shaner, later became "Gene Shay" - and was called "The Dean of Phila. Folk Music". Sadly, he died in 2019 of Covid. My younger sister, Felice Shaner Massey, died one year earlier of cancer. All three of us loved Kahagon and treasured our memories.

I remember Chief One Star with great fondness.

Just before Kahagon was demolished to rest at the bottom of the "artificial" Lake Nokamixon, we drove there, walked around, and stood in the middle of the Rec Hall, enjoying the gorgeous murals painted by Chief One Star (multitalented man!) and nearly cried! I still remember Chief One Star with great respect and fondness.

Ivan served as Drama Specialist and put on "Showboat" and maybe other shows. I'm looking for anyone who remembers any of the Shaner kids! I currently live in Durham, NC.

I went to Kahagon when I was about 9 and my last year was at age 17.

I'm interested in doing some metal detecting around where the camp once stood. Can anyone offer info on the exact location . I have a general idea from my research but would like to narrow it down.
Thanks in advance for any help anyone can offer.

I went to Camp Kahagon for just one summer, as a waiter in 1964. I came upon this website when I Googled Camp Kahagon for a memoir I am writing. If anyone was a waiter during that summer and has some memories to share, please comment.

I was a camper at Camp Kahagon for only one summer in the summer of 1963 . To be very honest it was the worst summer of my life I was teased and treated very badly by my bunk mates. I remember there were two twin brothers in my bunk who to this day I will never ever forget .I am sure you all had and have great memories of going there but for me it was not .
